Feasts in the Field return this fall on Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 15. Nearly a decade ago, we started this seasonal ritual and it quickly became a Rancho signature event. We’re always delighted to see the Feast veterans and rookies gather at our table to share in an unforgettable evening of culture and community.
This fall, we will be joined by Luis Refugio Arellano Aldeco of Criollo in Oaxaca, Mexico. Chef Luis is celebrated for his mastery of traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern twist. His culinary creations reflect the rich, vibrant flavors of Oaxaca, blending time-honored techniques with innovative flair. It’s a perfect coincidence that Chef Luis shares our love for al fresco dining. His restaurant, Criollo, is an open-air dining gem and he’ll be bringing that same outdoor culinary magic to our evening in the field. Enjoy live fire cooking and dining in the true Oaxaqueña spirit.
Gates open at 6:00 for bites and beverages in the field, on the porch, and by the pool.
Snag your tickets. We can’t wait to see you back in our field.
Chef Luis Refugio Arellano Aldeco
Luis Arellano was raised in the Cañada region of the state of Oaxaca, where he began working in his parent’s bakery. His curiosity about local culinary traditions and working hands on with food eventually led him to Casa Oaxaca restaurant in Oaxaca city, which was one of the first restaurants to bring Oaxacan cuisine to an international clientele. Luis moved quickly from his position as intern to becoming a Sous Chef at Casa Oaxaca.
His knowledge of traditional cooking and his experience at Casa Oaxaca opened the doors to working with chef Enrique Olvera at the world-famous Pujol in Mexico City. Along the way, he has participated in many festivals in Mexico, Spain, Germany, the US, and France. As a creative force for the Enrique Olvera group, he developed new additions to the menus while always preserving the cultural essence of Mexican gastronomical heritage.
Currently, he runs the restaurant Criollo in the city of Oaxaca and continues to research and distribute endemic products from his home state. He also acts as advisor to multiple restaurants through the Casamata group.
